Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • This submission does not contain any plagiarized material and abides by CJAE’s plagiarism policy.
  • Any and all use of AI-assisted technologies in producing the submission has been disclosed in the cover letter, in line with CJAE’s artificial intelligence policy.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Submission Guidelines section.
  • The submission files are in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format (please share video files via a link pasted on the submitted Word document).
  • You will upload at least 4 files with your submission
  • A title page listing the following items:
    -- The title of the submission
    -- All authors names in order along with their affiliations and ORCiD IDs (if applicable
    -- Each author’s connection to autism (such as: Autistic adult, parent/guardian of an Autistic person, family [but not a parent of an Autistic person], professional, service provider, etc.)
    -- Please indicate the corresponding author and provide their email address, if it is different that the person currently completing the submission.
  • A copy of your full submission, including an abstract of 100-200 words and no more than 5 keywords.
  • A copy of your full submission, including an abstract of 100-200 words and no more than 5 keywords, with no author information in the uploaded file.
  • A cover letter that includes:
    -- Disclosure of any AI-assisted technologies used in producing the submission including:
    ---- What AI technologies were used?
    ---- How were they used (including specific prompts)?
    ---- What was produced from the prompts that were used in your submission?
    ---- If no AI-assisted technologies were used in the creation of your submission, please include a sentence to that effect.
    -- Disclosure of all conflicts of interest, including real, potential, and perceived conflicts of interest.
    ---- If there are no conflicts of interest, please include a sentence saying so.
    -- A statement that the submission contains no plagiarized material.
    ---- If you are reproducing material from other works, such as figures or images, please include an explanation as well as proof that you have the right to reproduce that material.
    -- Any additional information that you feel that the editors need to be aware of about your submission.
    -- The cover letter MUST be signed by all authors (virtual or electronic signatures are acceptable)

Author Guidelines

Overall Guidelines

  • Papers should not have been previously published, or if so, the author(s) must have written assurance that CJAE has copyright permission to re-publish the piece. Please attach to every submission a letter confirming and signed by all authors stating that the work is not currently being considered for publication by any other journal. 
  • Works should be submitted in either English or French. 
  • Authors should submit their manuscripts/drafts via our website on the McMaster University Press website. 
  • Authors must submit one abstract of 100-200 words and a list of keywords, up to five and in accordance with APA 7th edition stylings, with each submission in English and/or French. These should precede the main work. 
  • All stylistic decisions for submissions (e.g. font, spacing, referencing etc.) should be conducted in accordance with the guidelines outlined by APA 7th edition. See here for more details. For citations, CJAE requests that authors use in-text citations and submit with the manuscript a reference list. 
  • When submitting an application, submissions must provide a reference list in accordance with the stylistic guidelines outlined by APA 7th edition. 
  • All submissions must be accompanied by full contact details (for each author, if the piece is co-authored), including: name, affiliation, full mailing address, telephone, and email address. Email will be the primary mode of contact between CJAE and author(s).
  • CJAE endorses the policies, procedures and guidelines provided by McMaster University and Queen’s University’s Inclusive Language Guidelines for non-sexist, non-racist, ableist and non-discriminatory language. Submissions are expected to utilize respectful and inclusive language, failure to do so can result in submissions being rejected. This decision is made at the behest of the Editorial Board.
