Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Final Manuscript Preparation Guidelines for Bridges: Conversations in Global Politics and Public Policy

Paper Submission Guidelines:

Papers should not have been previously published, nor be currently under consideration elsewhere. Please attach to every submission a letter confirming that all authors have agreed to the submission and that the article is not currently being considered for publication by any other journal. Authors are required to accept the copyright terms of Bridges: Conversations in Global Politics and Public Policy.

Papers should be written in English.

Authors must submit manuscripts via this website and all submissions must include a audio/video component. See guidelines for video submissions or contact the Bridges: Conversations in Global Politics and Public Policy editorial staff at bcgp@mcmaster.ca.

Papers should be as short and attempt to introduce subject matter for an upper-level undergraduate or Master's level audience. Papers should be a maximum of 7000 words, excluding footnotes and references. Authors can provide up to 5 key words and a subject area during the online submission process. An abstract of a maximum of 200 words is required, and authors can provide a cover letter with a maximum of 150 word biographical description. Papers not accepted for articles may be considered for publication as research notes.

Papers must be typed in double spacing throughout (including notes and references), with generous margins on all sides, but without justification. All pages should be numbered. Please format your manuscript using Times New Roman font, at 12 point size (even for titles and headings). Avoid any ‘auto-formats,’ headers/footers etc.

All Bridges: Conversations in Global Politics and Public Policy submissions are subject to blind peer review; as such, the body of your text and your abstract should be suitably anonymous.

Bridges: Conversations in Global Politics and Public Policy endorses the guidelines provided by the British Sociological Association for non-sexist and non-racist language.

Tables and figures should have short, descriptive titles. All footnotes to tables and their source(s) should be typed below the tables. Column headings should clearly define the data presented. Please be advised that if the table or figure submitted is not your own and previously unpublished material, you will be responsible for seeking copyright permission from the copyright holder. The author will incur the cost of any such permission granted.

Multimedia Submission Guidelines

All written papers must include a multimedia component. The multimedia 'lecture' component is analogous to an author's contribution to a traditional disciplinary conference experience, and should attempt to summarize - in an accessible way - the content of the paper.

Multimedia components should be no longer than 10-15 minutes and must be provided during the paper submission process. 

Multimedia content must be original and not include any copyrighted or previously published content. Videos may include powerpoint or other presentation material, and need not include the author in the submission.

Multimedia content will remain offline until articles have been blind peer reviewed.

If an article is rejected, authors can delete the video or have it open to the public as part of the ongoing 'Conversations' on the Bridges: Conversations in Global Politics and Public Policy youtube channel. The editorial board reserves the right to remove, disaffiliate and delete videos from the youtube channel at any time.

Attribution. You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).
